Restrictions for Playa del Carmen lifted by U.S. State Department
Following an explosion on a fairy mid-February that injured over 24 individuals, the U.S. State department issued an alert advising U.S. personnel to avoid taking any fairy services to or within Playa del Carmen, despite it being one of Mexico’s most popular tourist destinations.
Despite the attack, numerous local residents insisted that travel to the area was as safe as it had ever been. The Mexican government also issued a statement, saying “all tourism and economic activity in Playa del Carmen continues in a normal manner.”
However, on Friday, Mar. 17th, 2018, the U.S. State Department updated its warning to state that “Effective immediately, U.S. government personnel are permitted to travel to all parts of Playa del Carmen”. U.S. personnel are also allowed to use fairy services to travel between Playa del Carmen and Cozumel.
